CHAI SPICED SCONES

I don’t know about you, but I looooove some warm freshly baked scones. They’re one of my favorite treats. And add some Chai spice to them…..Mmmmmm….perfect. Serve up with a fresh brewed cup of Chai or a Chai Latté.







Chai Spiced Scones

These chai spiced scones have a deliciously warming suble Chai flavor. Perfect for sharing with a friend or two.

Total Time 45 minutes mins

Servings 12-15 (depending on size of scones)

Equipment

  • Tea Steeper

  • Sauce Pan

  • Pastry Cutter

  • Rolling Pin

  • Whisk

  • Mixing Bowl

  • Baking Sheet

  • Silicone Brush


Ingredients

Scone Batter

  • 4 Cup Flour all purpose

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Baking Powder

  • 1/2 Cup Sugar

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 8 Tbsp Butter not melted

  • 2 Tbsp Classic Chai Loose Leaf Tea or Spiced Rooibos Chai Loose Leaf Tea

  • 1 Cup Milk

  • 2 Eggs

Egg Wash

  • 1 Egg Yolk

  • 1 tsp Water

Vanilla Drizzle

  • 4 Tbsp Powdered Sugar

  • 1 Tbsp Milk

  • 1/2 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract


Instructions

Scones

  1. Preheat oven to 275°F

  2. Heat Milk to simmer in sauce pan with lid

  3. Steep tea in milk 10 minutes (cover to keep hot)

  4. Strain off brewed milk/tea

  5. Mix all dry ingredients for Scones in large bowl

  6. Cut butter into dry ingredients

  7. Add brewed chai milk and eggs

  8. Mix until blended well

  9. For extra flavor, add powdered Chai blend to batter (see notes below)

  10. Lightly flour surface and roll out dough to approximately 1" and cut into desired shape

  11. Place onto lined baking sheet

  12. Mix Egg Wash ingredients with fork and brush over tops of scones

  13. Bake in preheated oven at 275°F for 35 minutes (or until lightly browned)


Vanilla Drizzle

  1. While Scones are baking, mix all Vanilla Drizzle ingredients until smooth

  2. When Scones are done baking, remove and allow to cool

  3. Add Vanilla Drizzle over Scones

  4. Enjoy!!


Notes

Optional: Add in some raisins or mini chocolate chips for a little extra umph.

Powdered Chai Blend – Grind 1 Tbsp of Chai Tea (or Spiced Rooibos Chai) into a fine powder.

Alternate Drizzle Ideas: You can easily change up the drizzle flavor by adding cocoa powder or flavor syrups.

Toppings: Sprinkle cocoa powder or Chai Powder over top

We have a few different Chai Loose Leaf Tea variations to choose from. Classic Chai, Masala Chai, White Chai, Sweet Pu'erh Chai, Spiced Rooibos Chai, Chai Spice 1, and Chai Spice 2 (Chai 1 & Chai 2 are just the Chai spices with no tea leaves or Rooibos components)
