Chocolate Vanilla Mate

Ingredients: *roasted yerba mate, *cacao nibs, dark chocolate pieces, natural flavors. (*organic) see below for individual component ingredients.

Contains: Milk and Soy.

Dark Chocolate Pieces - sugar, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, milk fat, soy lecithin, vanilla extract

175–185°F

Steep, then strain well.

For iced tea: Double the amount of tea, brew hot, then pour over ice or chill before serving.

Due to the chocolate in this blend it is not suitable for cold brew.

HERBAL CAFÉ MOCHA:

For a richer brew, steep 2 tsp (6 g) in 6–8 oz water at 175–185°F for 5 minutes.

Strain well, then add warmed or frothed milk or your favorite plant-based milk.

For a creamier café-style drink, start with approximately ⅔ brewed Chocolate Vanilla Maté and ⅓ steamed milk, then adjust to taste.

TRADITIONAL MATÉ GOURD PREPARATION:

Chocolate Vanilla Maté may also be enjoyed using a maté gourd and bombilla, the traditional filtered straw used for drinking yerba maté.

Because this blend contains chocolate pieces, cacao nibs, and flavoring in addition to the maté, the experience will be somewhat different from drinking straight yerba maté. The fine chocolate components may also make the bombilla a little messier to clean.

Yerba maté (Ilex paraguariensis) has been consumed for centuries in South America, with its use originating among Indigenous peoples, particularly the Guaraní, long before it became the familiar social beverage enjoyed today throughout countries such as Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and southern Brazil.

Traditionally prepared in a gourd and sipped through a filtered straw called a bombilla, maté is much more than a source of caffeine. Sharing maté has become an important social and cultural ritual, with the gourd commonly passed among friends and family as part of conversation, hospitality, and community.

Yerba maté naturally contains caffeine as well as other naturally occurring plant compounds, including polyphenols and methylxanthines such as theobromine. Its stimulating qualities have traditionally made it a beverage associated with energy, alertness, stamina, and sustained activity. Modern research has also investigated yerba maté and its naturally occurring compounds in areas including antioxidant activity, metabolism, cardiovascular health, and glucose and lipid metabolism. Research continues, however, and drinking maté should not be considered a treatment for any health condition.

Chocolate Vanilla Maté takes this longstanding South American beverage tradition in a decidedly Steep Right Up direction; pairing roasted yerba maté with cacao, real dark chocolate, and vanilla for a rich, coffee-inspired cup that can be enjoyed traditionally brewed, sipped from a mate gourd, or transformed into our Herbal Café Mocha.
